Obituary for Gloria A. Armstrong

Gloria Gannon Armstrong passed away Sunday at the age of 57 with her family at her side.  Gloria's belief in God guided her life. She considered her family, including her husband Peter and kids David, JoAnna and Erica to be her greatest blessing.

A native of Central New York, Gloria graduated from SUNY Oneonta and Syracuse University with a Masters in adolescent education. She met Peter at a bible study and the two married in 1984. They lovingly raised their family in Manlius with Christ at the center.

Gloria will be remembered for her laughter and (occasionally unfiltered) humor. She served as a vibrant host of countless gatherings for family and friends including the annual Armstrong Christmas ornament exchange, which still rivals any holiday party in the neighborhood.

Her adventurous spirit included trips hiking, skiing and boating on Skaneateles lake. You could often find Gloria at area car shows and cruising around in her Austin Healy 100-6.

In more intimate settings, friends considered Gloria as someone they could lean on for advice and genuine conversation. She took great pride in her membership to the Syracuse Regional Church of Christ and active role in children's ministry. Gloria served as the ultimate support system for her family, working tirelessly to keep them healthy and happy. And that included her dog Max and cats Tommy and Jake.

Gloria's vibrant energy and love she shared will forever be missed.

In addition to her husband and children, she is survived by her mother-in-law Betty Armstrong, sister Theresa Koenig (Ed), brothers John Gannon and Pat Gannon, brother-in-law Paul Armstrong, and nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, January 18, 2019 at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville. A memorial service will be held for family and friends at 11 am on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, we would appreciate donations to Hope for Heather Ovarian Cancer Awareness and Helping Hounds Dog Rescue (HHDR).
