Obituary for Kathleen Murphy MacLachlan
Kathy Mac, resident of DeWItt and Old Forge, passed away at home on Saturday at the age of 73. Predeceased by her father, John R. Murphy and mother Patricia Kelley Murphy. Kathy is survived by her husband, Gary P. MacLachlan of DeWitt; her children, Timothy (Rebecca), Gavin (Kristin) and Kelley; grandchildren, Ainsley and Gannon MacLachlan, Lindsay and Jamison MacLachlan and Brendan and Kaelyn Wrights; her grand-dogs, Bussy and Colby; her sister, Susan (Bob) Brennan; brother, Kevin (Marjorie) Murphy and several nieces and nephews. Kathy was our Rock Star and leaves behind a huge hole in all our hearts.
Kathy was born in Syracuse on June 29, 1945. She attended the Convent School, Niagara University, BSN, and Syracuse University, MSNP.
Kathy and her sweetheart, Gary, met in 3rd grade and were reunited at a Simon and Garfunkel Concert and then married on August 30, 1969. Theirs is a love story for all time –with 49 years of marriage spent inseparably.
Kathy Mac, NP, was a beloved favorite of college students and athletes for 38 years with her gentle nurturing manner that put every patient at ease at Syracuse University Health Services.
Kathleen was a member, both past and present of the NYS College Health Association, a distinguished Fellow and Board member of the American College Health Association and she authored numerous college health articles that were published nation wide.
Kathy participated in welcoming and hosting children and teens from Project Children of Northern Ireland for many years, eventually being named parent of the year in 1989 by the organization.
Kathy was a communicant of Holy Cross Church and a Past President of Holy Cross PTA. Her unwavering faith carried her through recent years of health issues with a quiet strength to be admired.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 pm on Thursday, January 3 at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee Street, Fayetteville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Friday, January 4 at Holy Cross Church, 4112 E. Genesee Street, DeWitt. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt.
