Obituary for Marilyn L. Gagner

Marilyn L. Gagner, 71, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 23, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. Marilyn was a resident of Niagara Falls for over 50 years. She obtained her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Education from SUNY Geneseo. Marilyn had a passion for teaching, as exhibited by her work in early childhood education. She was an avid gardener, and enjoyed cooking for her family. They will miss her zucchini bread, apple crumb pie, and so many other favorites.

Marilyn was wonderfully artistic and creative and could be found completing the crossword puzzle, reading or crafting. Marilyn loved her exercise routines especially, swimming, walking, or doing her daily stretches in her younger years. She had a quick wit and was always ready with a joke followed by a smile. She will be deeply missed.

Marilyn is survived by her husband of 35 years, John Gagner; her children, Marla (Kyle) Velky-Reger, Matthew (Leanne) Velky, Gina (Zach) Pauly, her brother, Fred Martan, and 6 grandchildren, Maxwell, Jackson, Myles, Beckett, Carson and Macy. Marilyn loved being a grandmother and she lit up when the children came to visit her.

Marilyn was predeceased by her parents, Herbert and Janet Martan, her beloved grandparents George and “Petey”, a special aunt, Vivian, and her first husband, Mark Velky.

Calling hours will be held at Lane Funeral Home in Niagara Falls, NY on Friday, December 28th from 9-10:30am. A brief memorial service and private burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the National Alliance on Mental Illness – an organization that provides education and support regarding mental health treatment.
