Sheila M. Larkin, 83, of Pompey, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday evening, June 11, 2019.
She was the daughter of Irish immigrants who grew up in Queens Village with her sister Deirdre in a home that was filled with visiting family and local friends. She learned to ride in Long Island and, after to moving with her husband Don to Pompey, she kept her own horses and imported and trained Connemara Ponies. She traveled regularly to Ireland with Don and family until she was in her seventies. She loved skiing and golf and cherished the quiet morning hours tending her gardens or working in the barn. She was a cheerful soul with many friends, who greeted everyone with a kind word and a smile. She was a voracious reader who loved to write her own poetry, often for a special occasion or birthday. Most of all, she was a devoted wife and loving mom and nana, who wanted more for her family than she ever did for herself. She will be missed greatly by the many who were lucky enough to know her.
Sheila was an assistant marketing director at Toggenburg Ski Center for over 20 years. She was a board member of the Toggenburg Race Association and Fabius-Pompey Sports Boosters.
Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Donald Larkin; four sons, Christopher (Sheila) Larkin, Terence (Debora) Larkin, Sean Larkin and Matthew (Tricia) Larkin; daughter, Katie Gordon; twelve grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
