Obituary for Patricia Anne Cato

Patricia A. Cato, 90, of E. Syracuse, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 4. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Family and friends remember Patricia as a dedicated communicant of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in East Syracuse. She was a member of the church choir for 30 years. She was very active in St. Matthew’s Elementary School where her children attended. Pat was a dedicated and loving mother and grandmother. As a mother she encouraged her children to be involved in extra-curricular activities like basketball, baseball and cheerleading, providing rides and attending most games. On summer vacations she made sure her kids traveled and knew American History. She was always happy and ready to help her grandchildren.

Pat loved her gardens and her home. She was known for her perennial gardens sprucing up the neighborhood. A homemaker until the children went off to college, she then became employed by Holiday Inn for 25 years.

Patricia is survived by her daughters, Patricia (Doug) Dunn of Hannibal, NY, Mary Anne Martel of Peterborough, NH; and son, Joseph Michael (Diane) Cato of Seminole, FL. She was blessed with nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Joseph A. Cato; daughter, Sharon Smith; son, Daniel Cato; and brother, Edward Homer.

Calling hours will be Monday from 4-7 p.m. at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee St, Fayetteville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthews Church, 229 W. Yates St., E. Syracuse. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt.
