Lois Friedenreich Shafer, 83, formerly of Jamesville, passed away Monday, November 26, 2018 at Loretto Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born January 18, 1935 in Jamaica, NY, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Marie Friedenreich. She earned a bachelor degree in nursing from Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY and her masters degree in education from SUNY Oneonta. She spent 40 years as a registered school nurse and health teacher.

Lois was a member of the Fayetteville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling, visiting her family and spending time at her summer home in Richfield Springs, NY.

She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon C. Shafer, in 1998.

Surviving are her daughter, Julie (Michael) Rainville of Norton, MA; son, Gary (Debra) Shafer of Eden Prairie, MN; grandchildren, Nicole (Allan) Shafer Hecox of Oneonta, NY, Adam Rainville of San Francisco, CA, Carolyn (John) Shafer Miller of Victoria, MN, Brianna Rainville of Brighton, MA; great-grandchildren, Isabella & Evelyn Miller, Walter & Gordon Hecox; brother, Harry (Carole) Friedenreich of Sun City Center, FL; sister-in-law, Lois Ruggiero of Troy, NY; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Monday, December 3, 2018 at Fayetteville United Methodist Church, 601 East Genesee St., Fayetteville, NY. Burial will be private at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hartwick College School of Nursing Memorial Scholarship Fund at www.hartwickalumni.org/shafer or the Alzheimer’s Association at act.alz.org.
